Good Evening Zellwood Families! This is Principal Grimando with your weekly update. I want to start out by thanking those of you able to attend this past Thursday’s Open House. I hope you enjoyed the classroom presentations. For those of you who could NOT attend, please take the time to watch the informative administrative update video that will be posted on this page!

We want to let you know that our beloved Deputy, Dave Sepulveda, will be retiring and Friday will be his last day at Zellwood. This week is Deputy Dave week! Students are all making him cards this week to give to him throughout the week. We appreciate his 21 years of law enforcement service and are especially grateful to have him here the last five years, keeping a diligent, watchful eye over our students, staff and families. We wish him the best in his retirement!

This week, we are part participating in “Start with Hello Week” with the purpose of teaching empathy and to empower students to end social isolation by following 3 steps: See Someone Alone, Reach Out & Help, Start with Hello. Please encourage your child to participate and join us by greeting your family in a different language every day! We will be practicing that here at school! Attached is our Start with Hello Week flyer!

Fall Picture Day will take place this Wednesday. We encourage students to DRESS UP for their picture, or wear their school uniform if you choose to have the picture taken in uniform. We will be moving House spirit day to Thursday this week and encourage students to wear their nest shirts on Thursday this week only. Remember, Friday is school spirit day, and students can be out of uniform in their Ohana shirts or other Zellwood shirts. Ohana shirts are available for purchase from the front office for $10. If you do come to school with cash to purchase shirts, or pay for a cafeteria birthday celebration for your child, please don’t bring bills larger than $20 as we don’t have the ability to make change for large bills.

Attention parents of fourth and fifth graders…we are working hard to make sure our students learn and RETAIN all of their basic multiplication facts up to 11’s. Please help your child study their multiplication tables at home so they can be ready to test on each level. We are offering incentives for students to memorize them. We want students to know facts within 5 seconds and not count on their fingers. You can practice with flashcards or just call them out in the car or at the dinner table (3 x 6….go!). Third grade students are starting with their 2’s and 5’s this week. Please practice skip counting (for example: 2, 4, 6, 8…..) with your third graders!

Finally, we hope all of you and your families and friends will support our current Papa John’s fundraiser! This has the potential to raise a lot of funds for our school for the many projects we are trying to complete. If you did not get the information, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

As always, thank you for your support and have a great week!
