Principal Weekly MessageGood Evening Parents! This is Principal Grimando with your weekly update!

Mid-year FAST testing began today for students in grades 3, 4 and 5.  It will continue tomorrow with Math for those same grade levels.  Thursday and Friday, grades K, 1 and 2 will have their mid-year FAST testing.  This is a chance for all students to show what they have learned since September and we can’t wait to see the great outcomes!  Please be sure your child is well-rested and has a healthy, protein-filled breakfast each day of testing and send them off with words of motivation and encouragement!

This week is a busy one, along with testing.  Our APEX fundraiser is continuing.  Thank you to the parents, family and friends who have contributed toward this effort!  We can’t wait to do great things with our media center as a result of your generosity!  The culminating event, the FUN RUN, will be this Thursday.  Parents who wish to volunteer can look for the volunteer opportunity online at or call Mrs. Colon to sign up.   For more about APEX, here’s Matt with tonight’s fundraiser challenge….

This Wednesday is an extended Wednesday as part of OCPS’ Hurricane Make-Up time.   We are doing a special Nest (House) Spirit Day and pep rally during our extra time.  Please be sure your child dresses in their Nest Shirt and goes all out for this!  Show their nest pride by dressing in their Nest color, head to toe!

This Thursday evening, for interested parents, our PTA will meet at 5:30 in the Media Center and our School Advisory Council (SAC) will meet at 6:30 in the media center.  Hope to see you there!

Next week, our PTA will have open their annual “Holiday Shoppe” for students to be able to purchase inexpensive holiday gifts for their family members.  Teachers have picked a shopping day and time.  For more information, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Spirit Week is next week, as we head into Winter Break.  This flier will give you all the details for each day.  Monday is our Snuggle Up and Read Day.  Remember, if you want to participate, please return the form that is coming home tomorrow so we can plan for you.

Spirit Week

We were happy to partner with Gaylord Palms and be able to give complimentary tickets to Ice for students who earned Honor Roll during the first quarter in grades 2-5, as well as a few shining stars in grades K-1.  Hopefully the ticket made it home with the student and you can enjoy this very cool activity as a family!

We have an Angel Tree in the front office for holiday presents for some of our neediest families.  If you are willing to adopt a student, please come by the front office and select and an angel and see Mrs. Colon.  If you can’t make it to school, please call Mrs. Colon and she can help over the phone.

Finally, as we work to wrap up the second quarter, please make sure your child has completed any missing assignments so they will have a successful end to the second quarter.  Many students in grades 3-5 need support practicing their multiplication facts with the flashcards we were able to provide.  Students in grades 1-2 should be using their addition flashcards to practice as well.  Parents are encouraged to practice with the students daily, so they can memorize their facts!

I hope you enjoy your week and thank you for your support!
