Principal's Message

Welcome To Zellwood Elementary School!

Carol Grimando  Hello to all of our Eagles and Parents! Thank you for visiting our website; hopefully, you will find it full of useful information and bookmark this site for easy reference.

I was excited to have been reassigned as Principal of Zellwood Elementary in the summer of 2021 and am proud of the work our school did this past year toward our School Improvement efforts.  As a result of learning loss during the pandemic, we were faced with large gaps in student learning over the past few years.  Through the hard work and coordinated efforts of our school team, we are so pleased to have raised our point total on the state’s rating system a total of 74 points!  We know we will be able to continue to close these achievement gaps by delivering targeted, standards-based instruction in a way that engages our scholars.  Zellwood has been recognized for its efforts with Early Literacy by being named one of two MODEL SCHOOLS in Orange County, through a partnership with the Reed Foundation.  This recognition comes for ZES’s implementation of the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction throughout our school.  Visitors from all over the district are coming to observe our teachers delivering OG lessons!

We have an exciting year planned and are ecstatic to also continue our work as part of the “Innovation Schools” Learning Community within Orange County. Our Eagles are enjoying new and exciting learning initiatives and we have seen the positive increase in student achievement.

This year, we will build a positive school culture with the continuation of our “House System”, our Ohana citizenship awards and implementation of targeted social/emotional learning (SEL) lessons with all students.   We will also expand our Innovation School initiatives, as we promote three pathways (Caminos) to success through Early Literacy, Environmental Awareness and Career Exploration.  Within each pathway are initiatives that will not only promote student academic achievement, but also help us positively impact our community and prepare our students for the future.

If you are currently a parent of a Zellwood student, we ask for your continued support of our efforts with your child. Checking homework, maintaining communication with teacher, monitoring your child’s grades and reading with your child each day, will help him/her reach his/her full, academic potential. Our parents make the difference, both in and out of school!

If you are considering having your children attend Zellwood, we welcome you to tour our website and social media pages to become more familiar with our school. Additionally, you are also welcome to plan a visit to our school. The administration schedules school tours throughout the year for families moving into our attendance zone and considering enrollment. We think you will be very impressed with what our school has to offer your family! Zellwood is a special little “hidden gem,” sitting in a beautiful and peaceful location. It provides the perfect setting for our students to excel in a safe and tranquil environment.

We can’t contain our excitement for what’s to come and we are so happy to have you on this journey along with us! On behalf of our dedicated and high-performing team, I want to say thank you to our students, parents and the community for your support of Zellwood, where we are shaping tomorrow’s leaders, today!
